How to Use Calgary Touchless Car Washes Without Damaging Your PPF

In sub-zero Calgary winters, hand washing in your driveway is impossible. The Coin-Op (Touchless) wash is your only friend. But if used incorrectly, it can destroy your Paint Protection Film.
The "Foam Brush" Danger in Calgary Washes
Rule #1: Ignore the Brush
The previous user likely washed their muddy F-350 wheel wells with that brush. It is loaded with grit. Even if it looks clean, never let it touch your paint. It will instantly swirl your coating and film.
Step-by-Step Safe Winter Wash for Calgary
Pre-Soak (Low Pressure)
Step 1Use the 'Pre-Soak' setting to cover the car in soap. Let it sit for 60 seconds to break down the road film and salt.
High Pressure Rinse (Careful!)
Step 2Rinse from top to bottom. CRITICAL: Keep the nozzle at least 3 feet away from PPF edges (hood, fenders) to avoid lifting the film with water pressure.
Spot Free Rinse
Step 3Calgary water is hard. Use the spot-free rinse (filtered water) to prevent water spots from freezing onto the panel.
Drive Dry
Step 4Don't towel dry a dirty car (touchless didn't get 100% of the dirt). Drive onto Deerfoot to blow-dry the vehicle.
Wash Chemicals Matter
Touchless washes use harsh acids/alkalines to clean without friction. These can degrade waxes quickly. However, a Ceramic Coating is chemically resistant and can withstand these commercial soaps much better than wax.
