What is ceramic coating?
Ceramic coating is a liquid polymer we apply to your paint that chemically bonds to the factory clear coat and cures into a hard, glass-like layer. Wax and sealant sit on top and wash away in a few weeks. Ceramic forms a real molecular bond with the clear coat, so it stays put. What you get is a slick, hydrophobic surface that sheds water, dirt, road salt, and bird droppings, and takes the bite out of UV. What you don't get is impact protection — a coating a few microns thick will not stop a rock chip. That's a separate conversation, and it's called PPF.
The active ingredient in professional coatings is silicon dioxide (SiO₂), often paired with titanium dioxide for UV resistance. Applied by a trained installer, the nano-ceramic particles fill the microscopic pores in your clear coat and level it into an ultra-smooth surface — measurable hardness up to 10H (Gtechniq Crystal Serum Ultra) on the pencil scale, harder than factory clear coat. When to book: spring or before the first salt
Coating chemistry cares about temperature and humidity while it cures, and Calgary gives you a reliable window from roughly late April through June — before the summer heat spikes and after the overnight lows stop dropping below freezing.
