Paint protection film is not a one-and-done product. Three things decide how long a wrap lasts in Calgary, and all three are maintenance, not manufacturing.
Road salt and pickle mix collect in the seam between film and panel gap. That is where adhesive lets go first — long before the film itself wears out. Cleaning the seams is most of what maintenance actually is.
The heat-activated top layer closes light swirls only while it is clean. Bonded contamination — brake dust, tree sap, hard-water minerals — sits on top of it and stops the reset from doing anything.
Caught at an inspection, a lifting corner is re-bonded on the spot. Left through a winter, it wicks moisture and grit under the panel and becomes a film replacement instead.

Phase 1
Days 1–2
Do not wash, do not touch the edges, do not park under sap-dropping trees. The acrylic adhesive needs 48 hours to fully bond at the molecular level. Driving is fine, including highway speeds. Rain is fine. What you avoid is anything that puts mechanical stress on edges.
Phase 2
Days 3–7
You can hand wash with pH-neutral car soap and a clean microfiber mitt. Stay 6 inches away from edges with the spray nozzle — no high-pressure passes across the bumper-to-fender gap or the door-edge tuck. Skip consumer waxes, sealants, and any chemical product not labelled PPF-safe. A professionally applied ceramic top coat is a different thing — if you booked the ceramic add-on, we already applied it during your install.
Phase 3
Days 8–14
Standard hand washes are fine. Touchless commercial washes are fine if you must. Automated brush washes are still off-limits — the brushes can lift the not-yet-fully-cured edges. Mountain trips, gravel roads, and Deerfoot commuting are all fully covered by the film at this point.
Phase 4
Days 15–30
After two weeks the film is mechanically settled and chemically stable. Any minor install artifacts — faint edge haze or small moisture pockets under the film — will have cleared. This is the ideal time to bring the car back for your free inspection so we can check every edge and tuck line while the install is still fresh.
Phase 5
Day 30+
Adhesive is at peak bond strength. Self-healing top coat is fully active. You can now treat the vehicle exactly as you would treat factory paint. The only ongoing rule: pH-neutral soaps, microfiber instead of brushes, and avoid scrubbing edges with anything abrasive.
