Quick Answer

How Do You Maintain PPF in Calgary?

Hand wash paint protection film with pH-neutral soap every one to three weeks, keep pressure washers six inches off the edges, and have the film professionally inspected once a year. Our PPF care plans run $49–$149 a month and cover cleaning, inspection, and sealant top-ups on any installer's film.

Why PPF Maintenance Matters

Film Fails at the Edges First

Paint protection film is not a one-and-done product. Three things decide how long a wrap lasts in Calgary, and all three are maintenance, not manufacturing.

  • Film dies at the edges, not in the middle

Road salt and pickle mix collect in the seam between film and panel gap. That is where adhesive lets go first — long before the film itself wears out. Cleaning the seams is most of what maintenance actually is.

  • Self-healing needs a clean top coat

The heat-activated top layer closes light swirls only while it is clean. Bonded contamination — brake dust, tree sap, hard-water minerals — sits on top of it and stops the reset from doing anything.

  • A lifted corner is a ten-minute fix, until it is not

Caught at an inspection, a lifting corner is re-bonded on the spot. Left through a winter, it wicks moisture and grit under the panel and becomes a film replacement instead.

Aftercare Guide

PPF Aftercare — The First 30 Days

A phase-by-phase guide to caring for paint protection film through the full adhesive cure window.

  1. Phase 1
    Days 1–2

    Adhesive curing — hands off

Do not wash, do not touch the edges, do not park under sap-dropping trees. The acrylic adhesive needs 48 hours to fully bond at the molecular level. Driving is fine, including highway speeds. Rain is fine. What you avoid is anything that puts mechanical stress on edges.

  2. Phase 2
    Days 3–7

    Hand wash only

You can hand wash with pH-neutral car soap and a clean microfiber mitt. Stay 6 inches away from edges with the spray nozzle — no high-pressure passes across the bumper-to-fender gap or the door-edge tuck. Skip consumer waxes, sealants, and any chemical product not labelled PPF-safe. A professionally applied ceramic top coat is a different thing — if you booked the ceramic add-on, we already applied it during your install.

  3. Phase 3
    Days 8–14

Normal driving — still no commercial brush washes

Standard hand washes are fine. Touchless commercial washes are fine if you must. Automated brush washes are still off-limits — the brushes can lift the not-yet-fully-cured edges. Mountain trips, gravel roads, and Deerfoot commuting are all fully covered by the film at this point.

  4. Phase 4
    Days 15–30

    Settled film — inspection window

After two weeks the film is mechanically settled and chemically stable. Any minor install artifacts — faint edge haze or small moisture pockets under the film — will have cleared. This is the ideal time to bring the car back for your free inspection so we can check every edge and tuck line while the install is still fresh.

  5. Phase 5
    Day 30+

Full cure — lifetime care begins

Adhesive is at peak bond strength. Self-healing top coat is fully active. You can now treat the vehicle exactly as you would treat factory paint. The only ongoing rule: pH-neutral soaps, microfiber instead of brushes, and avoid scrubbing edges with anything abrasive.

Do

  • Do hand wash with pH-neutral car soap (Adam’s, Chemical Guys, Meguiar’s Gold Class).
  • Do use a clean microfiber wash mitt — grit guard in the bucket, two-bucket method.
  • Do let direct sunlight warm the film — it triggers self-healing of minor swirls.
  • Do park indoors when possible — not because you have to, but because every layer of protection helps.
  • Do add the ceramic top coat at install time — we apply it over the film during the same booking for combined impact + chemical protection.

Don’t

  • Do not power wash within 6 inches of any edge for the first 14 days.
  • Do not use commercial automated brush washes — the brushes lift edges over time.
  • Do not apply wax, sealant, or polish containing petroleum solvents — they degrade the top coat.
  • Do not let bird droppings or bug splatter sit longer than 48 hours — the acid can stain the film top coat over time.
  • Do not buff or polish PPF with a rotary or DA polisher — it removes the self-healing layer.

How It Works

Four Steps, Then We Handle It

The point of a plan is that you stop having to remember any of this.

  1. 01

    Pick a plan

Three tiers, month to month. Not sure which? Tell us the car and how it gets driven and we will point at one.

  2. 02

    We hold your slots

Your visits are booked ahead against the plan cadence, so you are not calling around in the first week of April with everyone else.

  3. 03

    PPF-specific service

pH-neutral chemistry, film-safe sealants, a full edge-and-seam inspection every visit — not a generic wash bay routine.

  4. 04

    You get it in writing

Each inspection leaves a dated condition report. That record is what settles a manufacturer warranty conversation later.

Hand wash only, with a pH-neutral car soap and a clean microfiber mitt using the two-bucket method. Keep a pressure washer at least six inches from any film edge, skip automated brush washes entirely, and never use a polish or wax containing petroleum solvents — they attack the self-healing top coat. Dry with a plush microfiber towel rather than letting Calgary hard water spot the surface.

A PPF-safe deep clean every one to three months and a professional film inspection at least once a year is the realistic baseline for a Calgary daily driver. Winter is what drives the schedule: road salt and pickle mix sit in the edge seams and are the single most common cause of premature edge lift.

No. Our PPF care and maintenance plans cover any vehicle with paint protection film, wherever it was installed. We inspect the existing film on the first visit and tell you honestly what condition it is in — including if it is near the end of its life and a plan would be money badly spent.

Only pH-neutral, PPF-safe professional chemicals — no automatic washes, no abrasive compounds, no solvent-based sealants. Top-ups use a film-specific sealant made to bond to a TPU top coat rather than to clear coat, which is why a generic detailing wax is not a substitute.

Edge lifting, small trapped bubbles, and lifted corners around handles and badges — the wear points that show up first. Full panel replacement is a separate job, quoted individually, though plan members get it at a member rate. If the film is failing because it is simply old, we will say so instead of patching it.

It mostly protects the edges, and edges are where film dies. Salt and grit that sit in the seams break the adhesive bond long before the film itself wears out, so regular cleaning and an annual inspection are the difference between catching a lifted corner early and re-wrapping a panel.

Yes. Every plan is month to month with no long-term contract — upgrade, downgrade, or cancel with 30 days notice. Annual billing is 10 months for 12, and you can move from monthly to annual at any point.

Elite Care members get complimentary pickup and drop-off inside Calgary city limits. Professional Care members can add it per visit for a flat fee — tell us your postal code and we will confirm before you book.

Yes — the adhesive is still curing. No washing at all for the first 48 hours, hand wash only from day three, and no automated brush washes until day 15. The full phase-by-phase guide is on this page under "PPF Aftercare — The First 30 Days".

It documents the maintenance. Manufacturer film warranties cover defects such as yellowing, cracking, and peeling — not damage from harsh chemicals or brush washes — so a dated inspection record showing the film was cleaned with PPF-safe products removes the usual argument during a claim.
