Why
Combine PPF and Ceramic Coating?

This is the most common question we hear from Calgary vehicle owners. The answer is simple: PPF and ceramic coating protect against completely different types of damage, and together they form the ultimate, impenetrable shield.

The Difference Between PPF and Ceramic Coating

Paint Protection Film (PPF), often referred to as clear bra, is a thick, self-healing thermoplastic urethane barrier. It is designed to physically absorb high-velocity rock chip impacts, prevent deep scratches, and stop winter salt corrosion from eating through your clear coat. However, while PPF is incredibly durable against physical trauma, it doesn't inherently repel water or enhance the gloss of your vehicle to the extreme level that a dedicated coating does.

On the other hand, Ceramic Coating is a liquid polymer applied to the exterior of a vehicle. It chemically bonds with the factory paint (and the PPF) to create a semi-permanent, glass-like layer of protection. This layer is highly hydrophobic—meaning water, mud, and road grime bead up and roll off instantly. It provides unparalleled chemical resistance against bird droppings, tree sap, and UV radiation. But here is the critical distinction: ceramic coating provides zero impact protection. A rock chip will go right through a ceramic coating and damage your paint.

The "Calgary Special" Strategy

Because Calgary drivers face a relentless barrage of gravel (used heavily during our winters) and intense UV sunlight, we have developed what our clients affectionately call the "Calgary Special."

The smart, most cost-effective strategy is to apply Paint Protection Film to the high-impact zones of the vehicle—such as the full hood, front bumper, front fenders, and side mirrors. This takes care of the rock chips. Once the PPF has cured, we apply a professional-grade ceramic coating over the entire vehicle, including directly over top of the newly installed PPF.

Why coat over the PPF? Coating over the film fills the microscopic pores in the urethane, making the film incredibly easy to clean and enhancing its gloss so it perfectly matches the rest of the uncoated (but ceramic-coated) panels. It prevents bugs and bird droppings from etching into the PPF, extending the life and clarity of the film significantly.

Long-Term Maintenance and Cost Benefits

Combining these two services at our SE Calgary facility not only provides the ultimate protection but also drastically reduces your vehicle maintenance time. With the hydrophobic properties of the ceramic coating, your car effectively becomes "self-cleaning" in the rain. When you do wash your vehicle, dirt and grime slide off effortlessly, requiring only a pH-neutral soap and a gentle wash mitt. You will never need to wax your car again.

Furthermore, booking a Combo Package at Calgary PPF Pros unlocks bundled pricing discounts. Because we only need to perform the intensive exterior decontamination and paint correction steps once for both services, we pass those labor savings directly to you, saving you up to 30% compared to booking the services months apart.

Key Advantages

Benefits & Features

Why Calgary drivers choose this protection

Complete Impact + Chemical Shield

PPF absorbs physical impacts on the front end. Ceramic resists chemical damage on every surface. Together, complete protection against everything Calgary throws at you.

Hydrophobic Over PPF

Ceramic over PPF makes the film easier to clean and enhances its gloss. Water and dirt sheet off — particularly valuable during Calgary's salty winter months.

Self-Cleaning Effect

The hydrophobic ceramic layer means your car stays cleaner longer between washes. Less washing means less chance of swirl marks.

Combo Savings

Our bundled packages save up to 30% versus booking PPF and ceramic coating separately. Both applied in a single visit.

Enhanced Gloss Depth

Ceramic adds a deep, wet-looking gloss that exceeds what wax can achieve. Applied over PPF, it creates a uniform finish across all panels.

Simplified Maintenance

One protection system, one maintenance routine. pH-neutral wash, no waxing needed, no reapplication for years.

FAQ.

Frequently asked questions regarding specifications, installation protocols, and lifecycle maintenance.

01Can you apply ceramic coating over PPF?

Yes — we recommend it. Ceramic over PPF enhances hydrophobic properties, adds gloss, and makes the film easier to clean.

02Is a combo package cheaper than booking separately?

Yes — combo packages save up to 30%. Both services completed in a single visit.

03Which goes on first — PPF or ceramic?

PPF always goes on first, directly on the paint. Ceramic coating is applied over PPF and all remaining surfaces once the film has cured.

04How long does combo installation take?

Typically 2-3 days. Day 1: prep and correction. Day 2: PPF installation. Day 3: ceramic coating application.

Incredible quality. The film is invisible and the edges are wrapped perfectly. Already saved me from two rock chips on Deerfoot. Worth every penny.
